Strengthening the Quality of Indonesian Human Resources, Minister of Manpower Ida Highlights 3 Major Transformations

JAKARTA - Minister of Manpower or Menaker Ida Fauziyah highlighted strengthening the quality of human resources (HR) as an effort to restore the national economy. Regarding aspects of human resource quality, the challenges faced are generally caused by the industrial revolution 4.0 which came almost simultaneously with the pandemic.

 

According to him, digital technology is developing very rapidly and has an impact on transformation in the employment sector. There are three major transformations taking place, namely skills transformation, job transformation and social transformation. "We need to collaborate, coordinate and synergize together to provide workforce strengthening in both large industries and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in terms of competency, consistency, adaptation, innovation and mastery of technology in harmony to build the nation's economy," he said Minister Ida in his written statement, Wednesday (8/3/2023).

 

Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Arsjad Rasjid, added that university graduates were still contributors to open unemployment at 8% as of August 2022 and vocational school graduates at 9.4%. "The main problem with this condition is the skill gap between industry needs and the capacity of Indonesian tertiary and vocational graduates due to a lack of link and match and demand-driven," said Arsjad. Arsjad also said that Indonesia also has millions of MSMEs which can become the basis of the national economy with a labor absorption capacity of 97% and dominate Indonesia's business structure by up to 99%. "However, unfortunately, MSMEs in Indonesia are still dominated by micro and small businesses, and still have challenges to scale-up," he concluded.
