IMPROVING FINANCIAL LITERACY AND INCLUSION IN THE THOUSAND ISLANDS REGION, OJK JABODEBEK KICKS OFF FINANCIAL LITERACY MONTH AT PRAMUKA ISLAND


Thousand Islands, May 27, 2025. The Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK) Office of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi (Jabodebek) officially launched Financial Literacy Month (BLK) 2025 at the Thousand Islands Regency Plaza, Pramuka Island, marked by a ceremony to hand over student savings accounts, gold savings accounts, and the inauguration of the OJK Financial Literacy Ambassadors of Indonesia (OJK PEDULI).

The launch of BLK 2025 was attended by the Regent of Kepulauan Seribu, Muh. Fadjar Churniawan, Head of the State Intelligence Agency (Kabinda) DKI Jakarta, Major General Joko Suparyoto, Director of PT Bank DKI Agus Haryoto Widodo, as well as leaders of vertical agencies and financial service institutions in the DKI Jakarta Province.

The launch of BLK 2025 is part of the National Financial Literacy Movement (GENCARKAN), which encourages all stakeholders to work together to improve financial literacy and inclusion, aiming to achieve a financially aware society and prevent the risks associated with fraud or illegal financial products.

OJK Jabodebek Head Edwin Nurhadi emphasized in his remarks the importance of synergizing financial literacy and inclusion efforts to promote community well-being.

“By emphasizing the principle of 'no one is left behind,' through the Jakarta Provincial Regional Financial Access Acceleration Team (TPAKD) forum, OJK Jabodebek, together with vertical agencies and other financial service institutions, is committed to creating equitable access to finance and improving financial literacy for the people of Jakarta Province, especially in the Thousand Islands," said Edwin.

Meanwhile, the Regent of the Thousand Islands, Muh. Fadjar Churniawan expressed his appreciation for the OJK's initiative to implement the GENCARKAN program directly in the Thousand Islands region.

“In this modern era, the ability of the community to manage finances wisely and intelligently is essential. I hope this activity is not just a ceremonial event but truly has a real impact on the community," said Fadjar.

Agus Haryoto Widodo, Director of PT Bank DKI, mentioned in his remarks that the implementation of GENCARKAN in the Thousand Islands is a collaborative effort to promote local economic growth, leveraging the region's unique potential. Agus hopes that collaboration among stakeholders to enhance financial literacy and inclusion in the Thousand Islands will bring tangible benefits and serve as inspiration for similar efforts in other regions.

BLK 2025 Programs and Activities in the Thousand Islands

BLK 2025 will take place from May to August 2025, encompassing a series of educational and financial inclusion programs, including:

  1. Implementation of the Inclusive Financial Ecosystem (EKI) program through the opening of student and community bank accounts and the provision of financing/access to capital for business operators,
  2. Establishment of LAKU PANDAI agents or branchless banking services,
  3. Organization a bazaar for local SME products and
  4. Conducting thematic financial education by the OJK, Bank DKI, Pegadaian, and other financial institutions.

As an update, the inaugural BLK 2025 event commenced on May 26, 2025. Over 500 participants attended the BLK 2025 event in the Thousand Islands, including students, teachers, fishermen, SME entrepreneurs, village/neighborhood leaders, and PKK women, all of whom are the primary target groups of GENCARKAN.

Through this initiative, financial literacy in the Thousand Islands can align with the expansion of meaningful and beneficial financial access, enabling the community to manage their finances wisely and actively contribute to regional economic development.
