OJK RIAU EXPANDS UMKM FINANCING TO IMPROVE WELFARE

Development of a Financial Inclusion Ecosystem in Kampung Sengkemang

Pekanbaru, December 11, 2024 – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) of Riau Province ​continues to accelerate the expansion of financial access for the public, especially for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Riau region through the development of a Financial Inclusion Ecosystem (EKI) program, which is expected to boost public welfare.

This was conveyed by the Deputy Director of Financial Institution Supervision of OJK Riau, Elvira Azwan, representing the Head of OJK Riau Province in her remarks at the Closing of the Clustering Program for the Development of the Financial Inclusion Ecosystem (EKI) Program at the OJK Riau Province Office on Thursday (12/5).

Elvira stated that in the implementation of the EKI program, OJK Riau collaborated with PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) to provide training, mentoring, and working capital financing support for the residents of Kampung Sengkemang, Siak Regency.

“This collaboration is a strategic step to expand the reach of financial services to underserved communities, especially in remote areas, so that it can improve public welfare and drive regional economic growth," said Elvira.

Furthermore, Elvira explained that through the EKI program in Kampung Sengkemang, residents are trained to utilize environmental and household waste into valuable products, such as used cooking oil into soap and candles, and palm fronds into woven plates. “Thus, it is hoped that the people of Kampung Sengkemang can become more economically independent, create a cleaner and healthier environment, and build new sustainable business models," added Elvira.

On the occasion, the Head of PNM Pekanbaru Branch, Benny Satria, also conveyed that PNM is committed to supporting the OJK program in increasing financial inclusion. “We believe that by providing easy and affordable financing access to MSMEs, it can drive community economic growth and create new jobs," said Benny.

Going forward, the OJK Riau Province will continue to increase collaboration with all stakeholders in improving financial access in Riau Province so that it can have a positive impact on economic growth and public welfare.
