The panel of judges selected 30 finalists of the 2016 Essay and Photo Journalism Contest, which is held by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), on Friday (Nov. 11). Out of the 30 finalists, 20 are journalists and their submitted journalism essays have been published in print as well as online media. The other 10 are photographers whose photojournalism works have been shown on print and online media.
HR Kurniawan, Committee Coordinator of the OJK Essay and Photo Journalism Contest, said that the committee received more than 700 entries for both categories from all of the media in Indonesia. The figure was made up by 250 journalistic photos and around 500 essays accepted by the committee.
"For three consecutive days, the panel of judges for the first round considered all entries and selected 30 finalists," Aan said in his explanation to the press on Friday (Nov. 11), in Jakarta.
From around 500 journalism essays submitted, Aan revealed that 100 entries were selected to pass the initial round before the judges eventually chosen 20 finalists. Similarly, for the photojournalism category, out of the 250 entries sent to the committee, the panel of judges—consisted of photo editors from business publications—for the photo competition first selected the best 100, before narrowing them down to 10 finalists.
The finalists will join the Winner Camp in Jakarta from Nov. 16 to 17, 2016. The award night for winners of this contest will be held in Jakarta on Thursday, Nov. 17.
