MAINTAINING INDEPENDENCE BY BUILDING TRUST

OJK Holds Independence from Corruption, Integrity from Heart" Webinar

Jakarta, August 16, 2023. Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of OJK Mahendra Siregar highlights that OJK as state officials shall continue to strengthen their integrity and credibility, as well as building public's trust as an essential factor to preserve national independence.

“Every OJK people must comply and carry out and comprehend well the provisions of code of ethics, governance, and employment discipline to realize good corporate governance in OJK environment," said Mahendra in the Merdeka dari Korupsi, Integritas Dari Hati (Independence from Corruption, Integrity from Heart) Webinar held in Jakarta, Tuesday (8/15).

Mahendra views that OJK people as state officials should comply with the prevailing laws and regulations by submitting State Officials Wealth Report (LHKPN) in a true, honest, complete, and timely manner.

The governance strengthening program has been and will be carried out by OJK as a form of commitment to the public to enforce integrity as a basic and essential principle as well as preparation to draw out prime work result and confidence to accomplish achievements and to improve services to maximum capacity.

“In the momentum of our Independence Day, let us keep our spirits alight in providing the most prime services to the public to uphold high integrity values. Let us unite and build this nation wholeheartedly, retain the dignity of the nation and institutions in developing an advanced financial services sector," said Mahendra.

Chairman of the Audit Board of OJK Sophia Wattimena also expresses that OJK already has a complete governance system, namely anti-corruption culture to establish a high-integrity work environment, comprehension and compliance of the code of ethics as well as code of conduct and OJK employment discipline, gratuity control, and OJK's whistleblowing system which in entirety requires the support from OJK people and their family.

Sophia views that family's roles in maintaining good corporate governance in OJK environment is essential, where family is the baseline of developing integrity values.

Keynote speaker of the webinar, the 2017-2021 Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to New Zealand Tantowi Yahya, explained that New Zealand becomes one of the five countries with the best corruption perception index with a score of 87.

This achievement was due to a strict implementation of anti-corruption law system which practices caution, prudence, and gains support from all levels of New Zealand government to protect the anti-corruption value. Additionally, there are two other factors which contribute to the minimum corruption rate, namely Criminal Liability and Civil Liability.

Maintaining a minimum corruption rate, honesty level, integrity, law enforcement, and a transparent governmental system significantly contributes to New Zealand. The culture and habit of the society closely correlates with a nation's corruption act rate. New Zealand culture leans to focus on the public facilities and infrastructures, thereby gaining the public's trust to the government and independence from corruption acts.

Tantowi Yahya extends his closing remarks, expressing that integrity can be maintained well through self-control in managing one's needs, income source, and investment.

This webinar is OJK's continuous effort to ignite anti-fraud spirit that will create a corruption-free, fair, and high-integrity nation.
