OJK AND MINISTRY OF FORESTRY STRENGTHENS SYNERGY
IN THE FINANCIAL SERVICES SECTOR

 

​Bandar Lampung, August 30, 2025. Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Ministry of Forestry (“Kemenhut") set forth an agreement for policy development, products, data exchange, expert provision, and human resources enhancement collaboration for the financial and forestry sector. The collaboration includes introduction to Carbon Economy Value potential developments of the Social Forestry area in Indonesia.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of OJK Mahendra Siregar and Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni in Bandar Lampung, Friday (29/8). The MoU signing was a part of the Kick-Off of Carbon Economy Value of Social Forestry areas in Indonesia.

Mahendra highlighted optimizing the carbon economy value potentials of the forestry sector, particularly in sustainability and forestry preservation.

“Today's MoU contents, particularly Point #6, Improving financial literacy and education, translates to improving financial accessibility and financing for the continuation of our forestry. Especially in Lampung, where its forestry is socially essential for the community," Mahendra said.

Meanwhile, Raja Antoni stated that the MoU expects forest farmers managing the Social Forestry area to have easier access to their capitals, thereby allowing forest farmer economy to continuously flourish.

“There are 8 collaboration areas between the Ministry of Forestry and OJK's MoU, but the most essential and expected from the Ministry of Forestry to OJK is how the Social Forestry, the forest farmers who have been provided the access to the forestry area in the social forestry, can and have access to gain capital in the banking sector. With OJK and this Mou, we expect banks and other private sectors with relations to banks can give special attention to forest farmers who have looked over the social forestry," Minister of Forestry Raja Antoni said after the MoU signing.

Vice Governor of Lampung Jihan Nurlela also attended the MoU signing. The MoU itself is a refinement of OJK and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's previous collaboration on Coordination Enhancement on the Ministry of Environment & Forestry and Indonesia Financial Services Authority's Duties and Functions.

The refinement was adjusted to the Presidential Decree Number 139 of 2024 on the Reorganization of the Tasks and Functions of the State Ministries of the Red and White Cabinet 2024–2029, which differentiates the duties of Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Forestry.

The MoU covers eight sectors of collaboration:

  1. Development of financial services sector and forestry sector's mixed policy
  2. Development of sustainable financial products, services, and infrastructures
  3. Provision of experts in the forestry and financial services sectors
  4. Review and/or research development
  5. Provision, exchange, and/or utilization of data and information
  6. Financial literacy and inclusion improvement in the forestry areas
  7. Human resources capacity and competency enhancement
  8. Other collaborations agreed by both parties

 

In addition to MoU signing, a site visit to the Social Forestry Area in Community Forest Park (“Tahura") Wan Abdul Rachman, Pesawaran Regency was held. Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of OJK Mahendra Siregar, General Secretary of the Ministry of Forestry Mahfudz, Deputy Commissioner of Financial System Stability of OJK Agus Edy Siregar, Director of Social Forestry Business Development of the Ministry of Forestry Catur Endah Prasetiani, Head of OJK South Sumatera Provincial Office Arifin Susanto, Head of OJK Lampung Provincial Office Otto Fitriandy, and Head of Bapenda Lampung Slamet Riyadi held a dialogue with the Social Forestry Business Association (KUPS) and reviewed the their flagship commodities.

A National Seminar featuring speakers from OJK, Kemenhut, the Regional Government of Lampung, and KUPS representatives was also held to introduce the Social Forestry's Carbon Economy Value development and to expand the community's perspective on carbon as a commodity, as well as managing the existing flagship commodities.

OJK and Kemenhut reaffirmed commitment to drive support from financial services sector for sustainable forestry sector developments through the MoU signing. The Carbon Economy Value potentials was introduced to the social forestry areas in hopes to create a new green, inclusive financial ecosystem for prosperous community and environment preservation.
