Background

This webinar aims to help participants develop a framework for identifying and assessing climate risks. This framework can serve as a foundation for further integrating climate risk management into their institutions' business strategy.

The webinar aims to cover three topics:

1. Understanding the Science of Climate Change:

This subtopic will more fully develop participants’ understanding of the primary types of climate risk:  physical risks (extreme events and incremental changes) and transition risks (policy, technology, and market shifts). The unit will be tailored to focus on the specific climate risks relevant to the regions and sectors where participants work.

2. Overview of the latest regulatory developments and emerging industry trends related to climate risk management:

The latest regulatory developments and emerging industry trends in climate risk management reflect an increased global emphasis on mitigating climate change impacts through both physical and transition risk management. DPNP will share OJK’s latest framework on climate risk management scenarios in facing climate change. This session will explain how banks can integrate climate risk management into their business strategy and other aspects of operations.

3. Overview of climate-related financial disclosures in the APAC regional context:

As the global financial services industry increasingly integrates climate risk assessments into its investment decisions, this subtopic will show participants how disclosures in other countries within the Asia Pacific region evolve. Through the session, participants can listen to the experience of the CIMB Group developing resilient business models that align with a low-carbon future, including strategies for identifying and mitigating climate risks, capitalizing on climate-related opportunities, and positioning the organization for long-term success.

Objective

The objective of this event is to provide understanding of the importance of climate change and its potential financial impact, develop expertise in climate risk assessment methodologies, and learn good practices for climate risk assessment and the integration of climate risk across the institution in the financial services sector.
