OJK, BANK INDONESIA, AND REGIONAL GOVERNMENT COLLABORATES TO EXPAND PUBLIC FINANCIAL ACCESSIBILITY
The Financial Inclusion Month Main Event: “The Jewel of Central Java"
Semarang, October 29, 2023. Indonesia Financial Services Authority (FSA) and all stakeholders continuously expands financial accessibility to improve social welfare and support regional economic growth in the region.
OJK Regional Office 3 Central Java and DIY along with Bank Indonesia and the Government of Semarang held “The Jewel of Central Java" as the main event of the Financial Inclusion Month (BIK) and Safari Rupiah Jawa Tengah 2023 at Lapangan Pancasila Simpang Lima, Semarang, from October 28-29, 2023.
Chief Executive of Banking Supervision of OJK Dian Edina Rae emphasized on the significance of financial literacy and inclusion in achieving social welfare.
“In financial aspects, social welfare highly depends on 2 things, namely literacy, or understanding in risk comprehension, and inclusion, where the people can easily access have financial services institution affairs and access easily," Dian said, on Saturday night.
The BIK 2023 explores the theme “Equal Financial Access for Prosperous Society", which is expected to deepen Semarang and Central Java people's understanding and comprehension, as well as to expand their access to financial services institutions, such as banks, nonbank financial industry, or the capital market.
According to the 2022 National Survey on Financial Literacy and Inclusion, the financial literacy rate, which is the Central Java people's financial insight rate index, is at 51.69 percent. Meanwhile, the financial inclusion rate or the financial accessibility is higher, at 85.97 percent.
Attending the event were Regional Secretary of Central Java Province Sumarno, Mayor of Semarang Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu, Head of OJK Regional 3 Central Java and DIY Soemarjono, Central Java Province Bank Indonesia Representative Office Rahmat Dwi Saputra, and representatives of financial services industry (IJK) in Central Java.
Secretary of Central Java Province Sumarno stated that the BIK event is expected to be able to improve financial accessibility to MSME capital in Central Java.
“Our hope is of course, through the improvement of financial inclusion in Central Java, people will be able to have access to the capital, thereby allowing businesses and MSMEs to advance and ultimately fulfil social welfare," said Sumarno.
Mayor of Semarang Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu expressed her appreciation upon the collaboration between the Regional Government, OJK and Bank Indonesia in driving the economy and increasing social welfare.
“We wish the collaboration will make every one of us in Indonesia proud, make Central Java livelier, and Semarang greater," said Hevearita said.
The Jewel of Central Java is a collaboration and collective synergism to continuously provide massive education to people in Central Java, prepared as financial education in the form of local arts to attract and become easily digestible by the communities.
In the event, Financial Literacy Ambassador was chosen from the pool of talents from financial services institution employees to support financial education in Central Java.
Additionally, Semarang Semarak Great Sale was also launched to support MSMEs and came with various offers to increase cash and non-cash transactions.
The main event of BIK in Central Java goes on with the educational activities on Sunday, simultaneously held with the car free day in Simpang Lima, including Zumba to enhance people's health, proceeded by Bincang Cerdas Kelola Keuangan (Financial Planning Talkshow).
OJK and all stakeholders will keep carrying out various educational activities to improve financial literacy and inclusion of the people in Central Java, as well as to prevent the society from engaging with fraud investment or other illegal financial products.
