PRESS RELEASE

OJK ENHANCES GOVERNANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT
FOR SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC GROWTH

The 2026 Risk and Governance Summit

Jakarta, 14 July 2026. Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK) continuously enhances governance, risk management, and integrity practices as the foundation of a resilient, adaptive, and competitive financial services sector, supporting sustainable national economic growth.

The commitment was reaffirmed in the 2026 Risk and Governance Summit “Future-ready Governance for Sustainable Growth and National Prosperity" held in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Board of Commissioners of OJK Sophia Wattimena said that strong governance is the key factor in ensuring effective policy implementation that benefits the public.

“Successful development does not depend solely on good policies, but also on governance that can translate those policies into tangible benefits for the public," Sophia said.

Sophia explained that the global risk has complex and swift development, demanding organizations to continuously enhance their governance and risk management. Cyber risks, unethical uses of artificial intelligence (AI), regulation changes, geopolitical uncertainties, and climate changes are the main challenges that shall be anticipated.

According to Sophia, governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) has already gone beyond its functions as compliance instruments but has become the groundwork in maintaining organizational resilience and stimulating sustainable economic growth. GRC enforcement also aligns with the seventh point of the Government's Asta Cita (The Eight Goals), which heavily focuses on bureaucracy reform, corruption prevention and eradication, and good governmental governance practices.

Sophia hopes various ideas and best practices gained and cultivated in the 2026 RGS will be implemented into concrete measures in strengthening governance, accountability improvement, and realization of the 2045 Golden Indonesia vision.

Deputy for Coordination of Business Management and Development of State-Owned Enterprises, Ferry Irawan, representing the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, emphasized that good governance is the foundation of institutional credibility, business certainty, and investor confidence.

“Good governance is not merely about compliance, but the foundation that strengthens institutional credibility, provide certainty for business actors and investors, and stimulate sustainable economic growth," Ferry said.

Ferry added that the concept of future-ready governance must be able to anticipate risks before they escalate into crises, particularly amid geopolitical tensions, financial market volatility, and global supply chain disruptions, which create increasingly complex and interconnected risks.

Meanwhile, Director General of Digital Ecosystem at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, representing the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, underscored digital transformation as a key driver of national productivity and public welfare.

“Digitization is not the end goal. It is the leverage of all economy sectors. Therefore, digital transformation must become a catalyst to increase national productivity and common welfare," Edwin stated.

Edwin viewed that good governance does not disrupt innovations. It becomes the foundation of credibility, thereby making compliance as the driver of continuous innovation.

The 2026 RGS featured two panel discussion sessions and GRC insight session which explores organizational transparency improvement and value-driven culture cultivation for sustainability performance. The forum also invited national and foreign GRC experts and practitioners, namely representatives of Meta, Danantara Indonesia, PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk, University of Antwerp, United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), Orbis Business School, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk, and PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk.

The event was held in hybrid format, participated by 20,000 financial services institutions leaders, GRC profession associations, academicians, and other stakeholders, both on-site and online.

As a part of OJK's commitment to promote innovations in the financial services sector, the 2026 RGS also held Innovation Paper Competition Volume 2: “Building Digital Trust and Ethical Governance for Indonesia's Future". A total of 408 scientific papers from 135 higher education institutions from all over Indonesia took part in the competition, mirroring the youth's enthusiastic spirit in innovating in the governance, risk management, and compliance sector.

Through the 2026 RGS, OJK expects to strengthen collaboration among regulators, the financial services industry, professional associations, academics, and other stakeholders to promote effective governance, enhance the resilience of the financial services sector, and support sustainable national economic growth toward the realization of Golden Indonesia 2045.
