PRESS RELEASE
OJK ENCOURAGES YOUNG PEOPLE TO DRIVE SHARIA ECONOMY AND FINANCE
The Main Event of Indonesia Sharia Financial Olympiad 2026
Jakarta, 25 September 2026. Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK) continues to strengthen sharia financial literacy and inclusion in Indonesia by increasing young generations' awareness and understanding of sharia financial principles, products, and services.
Various interactive and relatable educational programs for young people in Indonesia Sharia Forum Olympiad (ISFO) 2026 strives to achieve those measures through their sharia financial educational forum, competitions, and capacity development.
Chief Executive of Market Conduct Supervision, Education, and Consumer Protection of OJK Dicky Kartikoyono conveyed this message during the Main Event of Indonesia Sharia Financial Olympiad (ISFO) 2026 "Learn, Innovate, Elevate", held in the Hall of Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Jakarta, Thursday (24/9).
“Through sharia financial trivia games, participants can exercise their understanding and knowledge. Through the Sharia Youth Entrepreneur competition, their comprehension is channeled into ideas, innovation, and economic activities that provides real benefits to the society," Dicky said.
The 2026 ISFO had 11,952 participants, which were consolidated into 4,030 teams from across Indonesia, Dicky explained. Compared to the previous year, participatory rate head count has increased by 12 percent and team count by 15 percent. The numbers are not mere statistics, as they reflect the youth's eagerness to learn, develop skills, and contribute to improving sharia financial literacy in Indonesia.
Furthermore, Dicky emphasized that the competition's greatest value lies not in winning the championship title but in the learning process. According to him, the most important outcome is to develop a young generation who are PROFICIENT in understanding financial matters; WISE in making financial choices according to their needs and capabilities; PRODUCTIVE in creating added value and contributing to economic growth; and PROTECTED through an understanding of their rights and risks, safe transaction practices, personal data protection, and awareness of various forms of fraud in the digital financial ecosystem.
Minister of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia Abdul Mu'ti stated that Indonesia has significant social capital in the form of educated, creative, and productive Moslem youth.
“Indonesia has a large social capital: Moslem youth who are educated, creative, productive, and charitable, with strong ideals. This potential will be the main driver of Indonesia's sharia economic development in the future," Abdul Mu'ti said.
He emphasized that the sharia economy goes beyond wealth accumulation by certain groups and concerns the equitable distribution of economic benefits that can be enjoyed by all levels and groups of society. However, a major challenge going forward is expanding sharia economic inclusion to reach all segments of society.
He encouraged young people to continuously learn, create, and develop themselves. He also expected young people to be able to prudently manage their finances, establish productive business, and become a generation that provides added value of the nation.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Cooperatives of the Republic of Indonesia as the Chair of Sharia Economy Society (“MES") Ferry Juliantono said that cooperatives may become a relevant business alternative for the young generation, believing that sharia financial literacy and inclusion improvement is inextricably linked with financial access expansion and adequate provision of economic vehicle.
“Cooperatives may become a relevant business alternative for the young generation. Cooperatives are not only a forum to gather and cooperate, but also a tool for sustainable social economy strengthening," Ferry said.
Ferry encouraged young people to become more creative in creating products, establishing enterprises, and creating innovations with added values in addition to becoming a technology and services user.
Memorandum of Understanding Signing and Launching of Financial Literacy Teaching Materials
As a part of the 2026 ISFO Main Event, OJK and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and held the launching of Phase E and Phase F of Financial Literacy Teaching Materials.
The MoU is expected to serve as a foundation for stronger policy coordination and program synchronization, particularly in developing financial education and literacy, including sharia financial literacy, within the educational environments.
Furthermore, OJK has prepared the Phase E and Phase F of Financial Literacy Teaching Materials together with stakeholders to support the Financial Literacy Education Guide, which was released by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in 2024 (previously the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology).
The teaching materials integrated financial literacy competency into formal education, in intracurricular learning (Mathematics and Economics) and co-curricular events, curated and available in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Learning Home platform. The teaching learning is expected to aid teachers in presenting relevant and applicable financial literacy materials for the students in their current and future decision-making.
